Often, it brings cramps, moodiness, discomfort and headaches along with it. Once the bleeding starts, you at least know life is getting ready to get back to normal. Did you know, though, that your period could be giving you clues to your body's health? The color, smell and consistency of your menstrual flow could give you some vital information regarding other things that are happening in your body. Check out the 8 things the color of your period is telling you. 1. Bright red. Bright red is the normal color. If this is what you see, then Women's Health says that everything is normal. 2. Pink. According to Prevention, pink if often a sign that your estrogen is too low. It also generally accompanied with a light flow. Every month is different, but if month after month is this way, you may want to see a doctor. 3. Watery. Usually a sign of anemia, Prevention says that this flow can be kind of whitish as well. If you're worried you may be anemic, simply ask the doctor to do a test. 4. Orange. An orange color combined with a foul smell and a non-slippery consistency may be the sign that you have an STD. Women's Health says to definitely get it checked out as this is not a normal color or smell for a period. 5. Red and grey. Prevention says that a sign of some sort of infection is when your period is a reddish-grey color and has a bad smell. It's time to see the doctor for a diagnosis once again. 6. Dark brown. Browns of any shade are not to be concerned about according to Prevention. They are just older pieces of the uterus and some older blood finally being flushed out of your system. It is normal for this to happen. 7. Dark red with clots. This appears to be kind of like a jam. Prevention says that itcould be a sign of a definite hormone imbalance. Usually, it's caused by low progesterone and high estrogen. Clots are normal, but if you're passing clots larger than a quarter, you should see a doctor for a diagnosis. 8. Dark red. This is generally seen towards the end of your flow and shouldn't have any large clots in it. Women's Health says it's the sign of a healthy body that is simply ending its period and the estrogen is rising. Knowing what your body is telling you by simply understanding the color of your period can arm you.
